You invest in alot of cheap stocks, then when the company gets ready to step up to the big boards, your stocks become worthless. Solution? Keep an eye on the news on your stocks, especially your penny stocks. These penny stocks are notorious for these reverse stock splits. If you keep up on the news regarding the companies you invest in, research what they are up to and find out if they have any upcoming stock splits, be on your toes, there will come a specific point in time when you can sell what you have, if the traders are halfway fair and you can earn a decent return on your investment. If you don't do your homework, you will lose what you have invested. The thing that is sad about these penny stocks is that many of them do the reverse stock split, drive their value up through the ceiling, and then the big drop takes place and the stock bottoms out right back where it started from. Rarely do these penny stocks stay up there in value in the single or double digit dollar range. So if you are going to invest in the penny stocks, get in and get out, only stay in long enough to make some profit, then get out. Volatility is the name of the game in penny stocks. I've watched GTE (once GTEL) slowly recede back towards the bottom after it's reverse stock spilt and jump to the big board. I just wonder how far it will recede. They are involved in new technology and I still am not convinced that what they plan on doing is going to be historical.
