Penny stocks
Penny stocks are our friends. First of all, you have a pretty expensive commision schedule from your broker if it costs $1000.00 to conduct this trade (I tend to buy pennies with Brown & company). Secondly, the ask/bid price is a biggie here - If you were to buy a stock at 1/32. that would mean that it's ask would be 1/16, in which case it'd go up to 1/8 to sell it at 1/16. There's nothing wrong with this trade if you can get a standard commission (such as flat $29) and purchase 10,000 shares or more. This is =not= how people make money in penny stocks (or at least this is not how I make money in penny stocks), Explaination being complicated, there is (as you know) a smaller downside potential with a penny (not neccesarily an inverse propensity) and an infinite upside. With this being the case, the trick is to diworsify (err.. I mean) diversify. Don't focus on one penny stock or you'll get burned; rather, find several which fit a certain criteria and stick with them. You'll be impressed. I make much more at pennies than I do anything else (in the short term at least). But there's the diversification trick and you HAVE to do your homework - there's no way around it. Typically, out of 10 penny stocks, 8 of them go flat, sideways, loose a small amount or make a small amount. These become extra clutter to deal with so I dump them (after a reasonable amount of time). I break even after commission on these eight. Two stocks left: 1 of them I picked up at 1/2 disappoints me and goes to zero (or closely thereof). That was $5000 down the tubes. "Oh well, there goes that trip to the largest ball of twine this year." I have 1 stock left which I also bought at 1/2 and goes up to (in my time period, whatever it may be for the given equity) to $2.50 / share. That's $25,000 dollars. I subtract my $5,000 that I lost. Since my other stocks broke even or met inflation percentages,my ending cash yield for my wonderful self is $20,000 gain. Of course, this is OVERsimplified. I do not buy 10 stocks (right now I have 93 penny stocks in my portfolio) and I do not sell them all at the same time. Also, it's generally harder to sell 10,000 shares at $2.50 than it was to buy 10,000 shares at $.50. Generally, I have to take less of a profit. The moral of the story is this: penny stocks can be very profitable but in general there are few differences to "non" penny stocks. Generally, penny stocks have an increased potential to go to zero than a normal stock, but since you bought 10,000 shares, you can have them redeemed and you can get your bathroom wallpapered with all those certificates (as I told my girlfriend once, "..it's not a TOTAL waste..") So long as you diversify and keep a standard (don't just buy something that is cheap, develop an analysis system and stick to it) you'll be profitable. My analysis is 75% based on phone conversations with companies, but yours can vary. Penny Stocks www.PennyMarkets.com Find penny stocks at www.pennymarkets.com
